New Archbishop of Atlanta

The Most Reverend Gregory J. Hartmayer, OFM Conv.

March 5, 2020: Publicly official at 6:00 a.m. Eastern Standard Time (12:00 Noon Vatican Time), His Holiness Pope Francis has appointed our brother, Our Lady of the Angels Province friar, and current Bishop of Savannah ~ The Most Reverend Gregory J. Hartmayer, OFM Conv. as the new Archbishop of Atlanta. Even though Friar Gregory would have loved to spend the rest of his episcopal ministry in the Diocese of Savannah, he has humbly acquiesced to the Holy Father’s desire that he become chief “shepherd” to the Church of Atlanta.
Archbishop-designate Gregory will be installed as Archbishop of Atlanta on May 6, 2020, at 2:00 p.m., in St. Peter Chanel Church, in Roswell, Georgia. Our friars have been graciously invited to his installation and to the Solemn Vespers which will precede it on the evening of the 5th of May in Atlanta’s Christ the King Cathedral.
On June, 29, 2020, Pope Francis will give the pallium to the new Archbishop in ceremonies at St. Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican. A press conference took place in Atlanta.
We join in a fraternal solidarity of prayer for our confrere as he enters this new phase of his episcopal ministry in the Church.
