Ministry in Action – Summer Service Trip

This year, 39 students from St. Francis High School (Athol Springs, NY) and Archbishop Curley High School (Baltimore, MD) participated in the Encounter The Gospel of Life 2019 Service Camp. From July 7-12, 2019, these students traveled to College Park, Maryland, led by Fr. Chris Dudek, OFM Conv. and Br. Nick Romeo, OFM Conv. and for his 9th year ~ Fr. Matthew Foley, OFM Conv., who serves as the “Encounter The Gospel of Life” Service Camp Liturgy Coordinator (photo cred).
Through the Service Camp, the group stayed at the University of Maryland, using their facilities, in cooperation with the Catholic Students Center, of the Catholic Chaplaincy of the University. Participants raveled each day to different service sites in the Maryland/Washington DC area.

While on this trip to the Maryland area, the ten student participants from St. Francis High School also visited our Shrine of St. Anthony, in Ellicott City, MD.

This is the 9th year that students from Archbishop Curley High School participated. Over the past eight years, they were there under the guidance of Friar Matt who served the high school as both Instructor and FYM Campus Minister. Now Friar Chris serves in that capacity and was able to join in leading the group this year. Friar Nick is no stranger to the Encounter, as he led the group as Campus Minister of St. Francis High School last year. This year, however, he is now serving at Archbishop Curley, while Friar Matt now serves at St. Francis. Over these past years, Friar Matt and Friar Nick enjoyed the opportunity to work together and were happy to continue this service trip opportunity, alongside Friar Chris [at right].
