World Day of Prayer for Vocations ~ May 7, 2017

From the Desk of Our Lady of the Angels Province Vocation Director
Fr. Russell Governale, OFM Conv.

The Fourth Sunday of Easter (May 7, 2017) is Good Shephard Sunday. It is also the 54th Annual World Day of Prayer for Vocations. I wish to thank you for your prayers and efforts to promote vocations to Religious Life and the Priesthood, especially in our Our Lady of the Angels Province.  So far, the Admissions Board of the province (Friar Romuald Meogrossi, OFM Conv., Friar Jude DeAngelo, OFM Conv., Friar Jim Moore, OFM Conv. and Friar Matthew Foley, OFM Conv.) has recommended four men to our Minister Provincial (The Very Reverend Fr. James McCurry, OFM Conv.) for acceptance into the Postulancy Program, beginning July 1, 2017, and he has accepted their recommendations!  I will be presenting one more candidate to the admissions board on May 2nd for their recommendation to the Minister Provincial, so on May 3rd, I will start focusing on men to join us, to begin postulancy in 2018!

Thanks to all of the friars and all who support our efforts in encouraging men to contact me.  Please continue to prayerfully and actively promote we friars of Our Lady of the Angels Province.

Pray the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into his harvest” (Mt 9:38; Lk 10:2)

To encourage vocations, “Embracing Love: A Vocation Prayer” was composed by Our Lady of the Angels Province Friar, Fr. Michael Lasky, OFM Conv. when he served in pastoral ministry at the Newman Student Center Parish, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He now serves the province as Chairman of the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation Commission.
6″ x 4″ prayer cards have been reprinted for distribution, thanks to the efforts of Our Lady of the Angels Province Friar, Br. Andre Picotte, OFM Conv. They are available in English and Spanish and include the picture and prayer here. Help celebrate the 2017 World Day of Prayer for Vocations by prayerfully considering making a donation of $10 per 20 cards to offset the costs of printing. We have made them available to you for your personal prayer and for the prayer of the people within your worship communities. If you are interested, please contact Ms. Sandy Miller at

Embracing Love: A Vocation Prayer

Loving and Generous God,
it is You who call us by name
and ask us to follow You.
Help us to grow in the Love
and Service of our Church
as we experience it today.
Give us the energy and courage
of Your Spirit as we make all things new.
Grant us faith-filled ministers
who will embrace Christ’s Mission
of love and justice.
Bless our faith community
by raising up dedicated, generous disciples
who will serve Your people as Sisters,
Friars, Priests, Deacons and Lay Ministers.
Open our hearts to hear Your call
and inspire us to know You better.
We ask this through Christ, our Lord.
