Collaborative Ministerial Leadership

The title of Minister Provincial is held by the elected leader of each of the Franciscan Friars Conventual (OFM Conv.) around the world. For us, the friars of Our Lady of the Angels Province, our elected Minister Provincial is the Very Reverend Fr. James McCurry, OFM Conv. His role gives him authority over all of the friars and ministries of our province, which span the East Coast of North America, as well as our work in Costa Rica, Italy, Japan, England, Ireland, Scotland, and Brazil. Friar James works collaboratively with Cardinals, Archbishops and Bishops of different (Arch)Diocese around the world, to maintain our own and to support diocesan ministries.  This means that Friar James is often traveling, meeting with our friars, as well as with these Church leaders, to help our Order best serve the People of God. This month, Friar James had back to back meetings on the 18th and 19th of December with the Archbishops of Atlanta and Hartford.

This is just a sampling of the collaborative work done in the dozens of the USA (Arch)Diocese, where our friars serve in shrines, parishes and schools, as chaplains for other religious orders, as retired and active military, in nursing homes and in shelters. We also have friars serving the Church worldwide for organizations like Catholic Relief Services, our Province JPIC Commission (Justice, Peace, and the Integrity of Creation), and as Bishops in the USA, Costa Rica and Brazil.
If you feel called to serve the faithful, as a Conventual Franciscan Friar of Our Lady of the Angels Province, please visit our Vocations page for more information.
