Fall Friars Day 2018

Our Minister Provincial, the Very Reverend Fr. James McCurry, OFM Conv. presenting at the October 23, 2018 Friars Day.

Friars Day – What is It?
Each spring and fall the friars of the Our Lady of the Angels Province gather for a day of on-going formation and fraternity. Because of the tremendous geographical distance among the friars there are generally four planned days: metro-Baltimore, Western New York, Western Massachusetts and Connecticut, and either Georgia or North Carolina.  Topics for each gathering are planned in advance.  For the Fall 2018 it was determined that the day be divided into two sections.

The morning session reviewed the Province Four Year Plan which was defined at our recent Province Chapter. Some Areas of concern that were discussed were:

  • Fraternity
What seems to be a possible goal that your friary can achieve?
  • Conventuality
Franciscan joy is seen through our being together – how is this made real for the people of God and possible vocations?
  • Minority
Finding and making God the center of our lives, how can we manifest this challenge.
  • Justice, Peace, and the Integrity of Creation
    Elements were discussed and reviewed.

After Midday Prayer the afternoon session reviewed:

  • News from the Order’s Extraordinary General Chapter
  • The Friars discussed the recent Ecclesial Questions raised by the on-going sex-abuse scandal
