July 8-13, 2018
Over 40 students from our Franciscan Youth/High School ministries of Archbishop Curley High School (Baltimore, MD) and St. Francis High School (Hamburg/Athol Springs, NY) were led by Fr. Matt Foley, OFM Conv. and Br. Nick Romeo, OFM Conv., on Friar Matt’s 8th “Encounter The Gospel of Life” Service Camp.
One of the student participants wrote a Facebook article, including many pictures, about his experience at the service camp. Please follow this LINK to read more.
Here is a message from Fr. Matt about this year’s adventure:
“For the past 7 years, I have brought Curley students to a week long Catholic service camp called Encounter the Gospel of Life based out of University of Maryland College Park. This year more than 40 students attended and Br. Nick Romeo joined us for the first time with 6 young men from St. Francis High School in Hamburg, NY.
The students from the two Franciscan schools really hit it off. St. Francis would be proud, as these young men from our Franciscan high schools for the hard work and faith they showed this week. Over the course of the week these Franciscan hearted young men worked with homeless and troubled children, aiding the elderly, assisting at food banks, advocating members of Congress on issues of immigration and life, helping those with mental and physical disabilities, and many other good deeds.
The focus at Encounter is on ‘Direct-Relational’ ministry opportunities, where the participants work with and get to know the people they serve. We encounter Christ in those we serve and hopefully others can experience Him in us. Their website is http://www.eglweb.org.”
