Provincial Visit to Brazil

Our Custodia Provincial Imaculada Conceição do Brasil (Immaculate Conception Custody, in Brazil) organizes a recreational “Day of Fraternity” once a year during the Easter Octave.  This year’s event coincided with the visit of our Minister Provincial, the Very Reverend Fr. James McCurry, OFM Conv. (center royal blue shirt).
Rancher friends opened their large mountainside home and grounds to the Friars. Bishop Elias Manning, OFM Conv. (Bishop Emeritus of Valença, Rio de Janeiro – pictured to the right of Fr. James) joined the fraternal gathering.  The numerous group of lively postulants and aspirants kept everyone on their toes.  Besides the swimming, and the sumptuous food, provided by our hosts, an afternoon highlight was the “Bingo” match, in which all of the Friars engaged with gusto!!

On Friday the 6th of April, the Minister Provincial celebrated Mass with the Custos and Friars of the Rio Custody, for the blessing of the renovated Curia on the Rua Estrella in the impoverished Rio Comprido zone of Rio de Janeiro.

The famed Mother Pacifica (abbess for the past 48 years) gave the Minister Provincial and Custos the unprecedented privilege of entry into the Poor Clare enclosure to pray at the cemetery of the nuns, and share the joy of the Easter Octave. See more pictures from this day, by following this link.
