El Padrecito Ministries is a non-profit Catholic ministry in Guadalupe, California, inspired by the life of its founder & President, Fr. Masseo Gonzales, OFM Conv. (seated center front), a friar of the St. Joseph of Cupertino Province, also known as the Conventual Franciscans of California. Friar Masseo is a California native who entered our Order, inspired by the witness of the friars serving in his home parish. In his youth he lived a life away from the church and even lost one of his legs after a street fight. This event brought about his conversion. As a young friar, he served in parish ministry and taught high school, but felt called to serve the young people growing up in the barrio. So in 2010, he began, El Padrecito Ministries – reaching out to urban youth and gang members to bring them back to the Sacraments. Through his online ministry, speaking engagements and musical ventures, Friar Masseo stresses devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and a commitment to the spiritual model of St. Maximilian Kolbe.
At the El Padrecito Ministries Center, Blessed Mother centric retreats and workshops, as well as folklorico classes and performance opportunities are available to the youth of the area. Last week, three Franciscan Friar Conventual Novices from our Novitiate in Arroyo Grande, CA assisted with one of the Confirmation retreats, facilitating and giving, including two from our province, friar Fabian Adderley, OFM Conv. (kneeling front center) & friar Steven Arias Mosquer, OFM Conv. (seated second from right front) and a St. Bonaventure Province novice, friar Lukas Cichon, OFM Conv. (seated far right front).
