For years, many have looked forward to the end of November to not only celebrate Thanksgiving (in the USA – our friars in Canada celebrate Thanksgiving on the 2nd Monday of October) with family and friends, but to spend all day, and sometimes all night, Black Friday shopping. In more recent years, this shopping tradition has grown to include Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. We invite everyone to join the newest seasonal #GivingTuesday movement and take a day during this busy season to give. Born from a desire to “give back,” #GivingTuesday is a global effort promoting sacrificial giving, fueled by the power of our modern day social media. It is a great way to help us all remember that this holiday season is a time for generously sharing the gifts we all have been given.
On Tuesday, November 28th charities, families, businesses, community centers and students around the world will come together for one common purpose: to celebrate and encourage giving. Occurring in the USA on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, many people around the county join our global community and give back in impactful ways to charities and causes. #GivingTuesday is not just a financial movement. It is also an opportunity for everyone to give a charitable organization or ministry of your time and talent. The varied ministries throughout our province welcome any assistance. This movement affords a greater awareness that our friars rely heavily on our benefactors to continue our work. We urge you to prayerfully consider adding a #GivingTuesday donation of time, talent or treasure to our province this year.
If you opt for a treasure donation, our DONATION PAGE allows you to specify the intention of each contribution. If you want your donation to be a part of this movement, we ask that you please type “#GivingTuesday” in that area. Please note that we also ask that if you require a reply letter, please also add “Please Reply” so that our friars will know that you are expecting a letter of acknowledgement. If you wish to donate to an individual ministry, we ask you to please contact them directly (Locations).
We also want to stress that we do not wish for you to donate to the province or to any of our varied ministries if it causes you distress. As our friars profess the vows of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience, these funds are not for individual friars’ use but are for the work that we do as a province and your donations allow our friars to continue the work of all of our ministries. Please be sure to only donate if you have the means to do so.
As always, we ask that you please continue to keep our friars and our ministries in your prayers, as we are keeping all of you in ours. Thank you in advance for your ever present generosity.
