Adventures with Friar Chris

On Saturday, July 7, 2018, the friars of our province look forward to the Diaconal Ordination of Friar Chris Dudek, OFM Conv., with the Bishop of Springfield, the Most Reverend Mitchell T. Rozanski, at the 11:00 a.m. Mass of our pastoral ministry of the Basilica of St. Stanislaus, Bishop & Martyr, in Chicopee, MA.

Friar Chris is nearing the end of his Masters Degree in Theology studies at the Pontifical University of St. Bonaventure (Pontifical Theological Faculty of Saint Bonaventure, commonly called the Seraphicum – the international study center of the Friars Minor Conventual in Rome). We have shared many of his adventures with you, since his 2015 arrival there, including his October 26, 2015 message to us all. In that message, he spoke of the ‘Sveglia Francescana,’ initiative of the young friars of the Seraphicum, which includes online (social media, videos etc.) and street evangelization.

This past Sunday, October 22, 2017, two years almost to the day after Friar Chris’ first experience with the Sveglia Francescana street evangelization, he and the other young friars went to Piazza Navona to meet people and share the joy of the gospel. Through their latest Facebook post, they share photos of the day as well as a snippet from the Holy Father’s Apostolic Exhortation – Evangelii Gaudium (EG): “The joy of the gospel fills the hearts and lives of all who encounter Jesus. Those who accept his offer of salvation are set free from sin, sorrow, inner emptiness and loneliness. With Christ joy is constantly born anew.”
